malayamarutham is one of the most pleasing janya ragams of chakravAkam (indo -- i always knew this. what threw me about kalagada that impy posted was the identical lower half of the arohanam and its pentatonic nature which is very similar to malayamarutham; however upon more careful listening the dhaivatam and nishadam are different in the two).

anyway back to malayamarutham. here is a movie song by ilayaraja based broadly on malayamarutham.

if you understand tamil, this song is even more enjoyable. it is by arunachala kavi, one of the most moving parts of the ramAyanam where sitA discusses with anjanEyA how to prove to rAmA that he has indeed located her.

yesudas does a beautiful malayamarutham too. someone recorded him doing some impromptu stuff. it seems a very popular raga in keraLa. i have a lovely dhanyudevaddo dasarathE by yesudas in my collection. couldn't find one on youtube.
