Former president of Ethnic Communities Council, Suresh Rajan, said Durani was taken into custody on Friday after the outgoing Immigration Minister, Tony Burke, cancelled his visa. "Absolutely disgraceful behaviour is about the only thing I can describe it as," Rajan said, adding "There are no reasons that have been advanced and clearly this is completely in violation of any human rights issues that we might have."

Durani denied twice sexually penetrating the woman with his fingers and fondling her breasts on three occasions in the hospital emergency department on February 20, while she was being treated for a diabetic illness.

Durani had also admitted to asking some questions about the woman's sex life while she was in hospital, and when cross-examined about the appropriateness of the questions "he appeared to me to be in some difficulty, the word floundered occurred to me", Judge Fenbury said.
