Beware of DUI
Listening to the radio today I learned that in Illinois if you decide to not drive after having a few drinks at the bar but just recline in the back seat to sleep it off, the cops can still arrest you for DUI if you have the car keys in your possession or within access and the alcohol level exceeds the minimum. Hmmm.

It is pretty much the same in most other states.

In the radio interview the attorney who specializes in DUI cases mentioned that the law was changed few years ago. Before it only applied to people who were actually driving drunk. Apparently in conjunction with MADD and other agencies this is now enforced as a proactive/preventive measure. Being in the car is sufficient provided one has the car keys in possession or within access.Hellsangel wrote:It is pretty much the same in most other states.

I don't know if/when the law was changed. I am sure if you google it, you can find the answer.goodcitizn wrote:In the radio interview the attorney who specializes in DUI cases mentioned that the law was changed few years ago. Sleeping in a car seems unsafe whether one is drunk or not.

That is a bit going too far. A large percentage of people sleep in a moving car. What is wrong with that?nevada wrote:Sleeping in a car seems unsafe whether one is drunk or not.

Re: Beware of DUI
I was under the impression that this post was about ONE drunk person sleeping it off in his/her parked car. As to your point - I don't see anything wrong with people sleeping in a moving car(unless they are driving!).truthbetold wrote:That is a bit going too far.
