Everything is good in moderation. A little alcohol is good for the body, but definition of "little" changes very quickly once the body gets used to it.

Anyways, "John Yates" commented in the above link

A new week and a new study, "disproving" a contradictory study from last week. It is getting very irritating to have "scientific evidence" from a "new study" presented as fact.

Notable contradictions from the past include, coffee, sunshine, statins, asprin, red meat, sugar, eggs, butter and many many more.

Wasting money on these numerous projects seems more about creating work for a some set of statisticians, researchers and scientists rather than contributing anything to the pool of human knowledge.

They never said 'why' the moderate drinkers outlive the sobers. That's because alcohol in moderation is a great stress relief. It relaxes you and that's good for your heart and general health.
If the stress relief can be had from other means like yoga, meditation and pranayam, etc there's no need to take alcohol. FH probably does the Isha yoga meditation and  gets his stress relief and relaxation from that.

Enna sonnalum  IMHO, not agreeable to me. No wonder, most of you didnot comment on the following posts Smile

Just imagine the outcome if the money that has been spent liquor if it is spent on education or other social welfare. (Ofcourse you can argue it is not govt money, the people are buying...). In some aspects I would equate liquor to Guns...

And this guy gets probation for killing 4 people...

i have no problems at all with you having a morality based stance on not drinking alcohol. we all have and are allowed our individual quirks. for example, i don't like torturing dosais by stuffing the poor things with all manner of garbage like panneer etc.  it's a morality based stance. where it becomes remark worthy is when you try to justify your quirks with folderol.

what about the money people spend on food? i am sure people consume way more calories than they really need. imagine if that was spent on education or other social welfare.

Enjoyed the poetry. It is interesting that he never once mentions how liquor could affect one's health but instead focuses on social perceptions.
