So would you feel somewhat sorry for him if he had taken a more polite tone in his bomb threat? Just because this was obviously somewhat premeditated doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't "snap"; nor does it mean he isn't culpable for his actions. Such a drastic decision could have emerged out of a number of contributing factors (and likely a combination of them): exhaustion, persistently high stress levels, a warped view of success, an egocentric disposition, mental illness, and certainly others that I've failed to mention. In any event, we have to remain aware that, at present, we don't really know. So maybe he is a sociopath hell-bent on fulfilling his own ambitions at all costs. Or maybe he is a fairly decent person with a somewhat inflated view of his own importance in relation to others, and maybe he was depressed and had gone a night or two without sleep, and maybe he'd been conditioned from grade school that his self-worth was measured in terms of GPA. My point is this: whatever led to this terrible choice, once made, we would still expect him to make some effort to hide his identity. Failing to do so would amount to self-punishment. I will say, though, that counter to your intuition, it seems to me that the obviously-flawed strategy he adopted to disguise himself is indicative of far less forethought than you suggest.
