It is sad that so much firepower was available to such troubled kid.
mental problems and destructive power will prove to be lethal again and again.

The problem lies with his mom. She may be a good and caring mom, but the thing is, why the hell did she introduced him to the fire arms and stuff? She was taking him regularly to the shooting ranges too. And then she had those automatic rifles fully loaded at home which Lanza used to kill both her and all those cute li'l babies. How stupid and thoughtless can that lady be? She knew that the kid was mentally sick and a troubled one at that but still had him around the deadly firearms. Totally irresponsible!

From what I read on the internets, the government got rid of mental institutions long ago. These were the places people with mental troubles used to be sent to. Now, there are no such places and the mentally ill are required to survive and thrive in "normal" settings. That doesn't work well, apparently.

couple of decades ago us courts ruled that govt or authorities cannot confine mentally ill people in the mental institutions. That led to lot of people being released to society which has no alternate means of taking care of them. Lot of current homeless also fall into various types of mentally ill.

It was considered a question of "personal choice vs societal authority".

However there is no evidence that any of the street people committed mass murders.

We will never know all the answers in this case.

Mental illness and firearms are a dangerous combination. There must be a better way to keep firearms from these people. Nra's intransigent attitude prevents a sensible discussion on firearm availability.

Much of the violence is between Granny and her son. She kicks the boy into a burning fireplace, punches him in the face and shoots at him. After the bank robbery, the son shoots Granny in the head with a shotgun.

the fact that nancy lanza was communicating with her son only by email in the last year of their lives even though they were staying in the same house seems to suggest that she was mentally ill as well.

or is it the system that prohibits parents from being parents, blaming on mental health condition seems to be an easy cop-out or becoming fashionable.
