Fissures emerge in BJP alliance: Subramaniam Swamy criticizes BJP for allying with MDMK

Chennai: Within days of BJP striking a deal with MDMK, its first in the south for the Lok Sabha polls, murmurs of dissent have surfaced with senior leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday tweeting his displeasure over the alliance as well as the party’s attempts to woo PMK. Swamy’s comments drew flak from BJP’s state unit leaders and MDMK chief Vaiko.
“Alliances being formed in TN are so ideology-neutral or contradictory that (CM) Jayalalithaa will win all 39 seats plus Puducherry,” Swamy tweeted. The tweet had Vaiko fuming as he arrived at the state BJP headquarters here in reciprocation of a visit by BJP national secretary Muralidhar Rao to the MDMK office on Saturday. “Is he in the BJP? If such a voice is raised, is he in the BJP? I choose to ignore him,” Vaiko told reporters.
It was left to Rao to placate him by pointing out the alliance was “official with the concurrence of the party’s national president Rajnath Singh” and there was no way Swamy could speak for the party. The alliance will enhance the party’s prospects, Rao said.
Swamy, who merged his Janata Party with BJP last August, again tweeted in the afternoon, saying: “Two senior most leaders of BJP told me today that MDMKPMK alliance cannot be finalized without a discussion in the central party.”
BJP ideologue M V M Alagappan said Swamy was “talking nonsense” as the alliance with MDMK and a possible tie-up with PMK had been a unanimous proposal of the state BJP leaders ratified by Rajnath Singh. Alagappan told TOI that the state unit had urged the party brass that Swamy not be allowed to interfere with its decisions.

MDMK is a party which is sympathetic to LTTE. It is shameful that a self proclaimed nationalist party like BJP is allying with MDMK. I salute Dr Swamy for pointing out the contradiction in BJP allying with MDMK.
