Madhya Pradesh BJP CM rejects Congress demand for judicial probe into Diggy incident
The Congress is demanding a judicial probe into the incident in which Digvijay Singh is reported to have slapped some BJP workers. The incident took place in Madhya Pradesh where the BJP is in power. The BJP CM prefers to remain silent on the Congress demand. Why is the BJP running shy of a judicial probe into the incident? And why is the Congress being so strident that the incident be investigated in detail?

Bhopal, Jul 19 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister
Shivraj Singh Chouhan today strongly denied that any attempt
had been made on the life of Congress general secretary
Digvijay Singh at Ujjain on July 17. Replying to a four-hour discussion on the Congress
sponsored adjournment motion on the issue, Chouhan said Singh
had come to Madhya Pradesh a number of times and he had been
given adequate security on all occasions. While MP Congress leaders alleged that Singh's cavalcade
was attacked by BJP activists, media reports claimed that
Singh had slapped a BJP worker which the Congress general
secretary denied. Chouhan said politicians face black flag demonstrations
all the time but the manner in which the Singh had reacted on
July 17 was unheard off. Singh got down from his car and began chasing protesting
workers of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha who were angry
with some of his statements, he said. Chouhan said that following his controversial statements,
Singh is no longer taken seriously by anyone in the country
and added that this was personally sad for him. Singh was a very good Chief Minister when he began his
term in 1993, but in the second term he changed, he added. He, however, remained silent on the Congress demand for a
judicial inquiry into the July 17 incident. Earlier, Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh said that the
attack on Digvijay Singh was the culmination of various events
that had been taking place in the state in the recent years. He alleged that law and order situation in the state was
on the verge of collapse and those belonging to Sangh
organisations had become emboldened to take law in their own
hands. The Chief Minister should order a judicial probe into
Sunday's incident so that everyone learns the true facts about
it, Ajay said.
