I was talking to somebody I know , who operates a school , in a village , for tribal children. I made some general enquiries about the students in his school and one thing that piqued my interest was that he said these kids are unusually poor in mathematics. Why is this happening? Should the entire blame be put on the teachers for not enlivening the subject adequately or can there also be some other reason ?

Why does this concern only them?

Dear mitti se aayi khushboo ,
What profiling ? You mean Rash profiled them as tribal children/poor in mathematics/teachers not enlivening ?

What do you think ?

What are you going to do about it as solution?

AND

How are you going to implement your solution?

i think mathematics is one subject where the way it is taught makes a lot of difference. in most cases, the teachers themselves don't have a thorough grasp on the topics and can just repeat standard stuff, and they indirectly convey that fear to students. by the time the kid is 10 or 12, the "fear" of math seems to be firmly instilled in many and as the topics get harder, many tend to shy away from it.

>>>The causes can be many and complex. For starters, I would see how the kids fare in other subjects. If I were to hazard a guess here, they are probably not doing well overall, given the context you are describing. That can be traced to home environments without exposure or wherewithal vis a vis education. If on the other hand, it is mainly math-specific, the teachers would have to share a big portion of the blame.
