tomato pickle :
tomato paste - 2 cans (hunts) dont buy puree.
oil - 10 to 15 tsp
methi seeds powder - 3/4 tsp ( dry fry methi seeds and powder it)
chilli powder - 5 tsp
turmeric - 1/4 tsp
salt - 3tsp
season :
mustard
hing (3 to 5 times more than what u put for curries)
do the seasoning with 8 to tsp oil. add the paste, stir it. add more oil if necessary,
after 5 mins, add all the powders, keep stirring till it separates from oil.
i sometimes add 1/4 tsp sugar in the end after tasting it if necessary.

No one can make - repeat no one - Tomato pickle better than a real Andhra Naidu. We used to get from a Andhra Naidu colleague of my father. His wife made it at home and sell it for Rs 5 per bottle (in those days bottled pickles were 50 paise in shops). She would sell it only to the office colleagues or friends as it involved a lot of work made from the scratch. It took almost 3 day-period to make it.
Tomato puree ????? (not even close to the real one). This is the equivalent of Dubba Idli Dubba Dosai made out of Dubba powder sold in the Indian groceries.
Sorry... that is the whole truth....
Here.. take this Vibhuthi.

Use real tomatoes instead of canned ones. They will be in season soon. Also use Sesame oil.

Try Badekar's "lemon pickle (sweet)." You will like it. Even their regular lemon pickle is pretty good.

There used to be Jaya Pickles (in large Kissan - size bottles) from Hyderabad before the days of Amla and Pathek. It used to be fantastic, so authentic, and like home made. Whatever happened to that brand?

Yeah, All you see these days are - Ruchi, Priya, Badekar, Swad, and a couple other brands. It seems Priya pickles, like mattresses, are always on sale (buy two get one free, buy one get one free, buy nothing get one free, etc.). Some friends told us Ruchi is also good, but we didn't try that brand yet. As for Badekar, they used to have their mango and lemon pickles on the tables even in the Pittsburgh temple in the old days.
