World Bank: Growth alone can't end poverty
Bank urges developing countries to 'enhance growth with policies that allocate more resources to the extreme poor'
In a report the bank said that while economic growth remains vital for reducing poverty, it has its limits. "Countries need to complement efforts to enhance growth with policies that allocate more resources to the extreme poor," it said.
"These resources can be distributed through the growth process itself, by promoting more inclusive growth, or through government programmes, such as conditional and direct cash transfers."
The bank said the top five countries, in terms of numbers of poor, are India (with 33% of the world's poor), China (13%), Nigeria (7%), Bangladesh (6%) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (5%), which together are home to nearly 760m of the world's poor.

Now back to land transfers, Brahmani ( reveresed by ap govt), Lepakshi corridor (reversed by ap govt), iron ore permits (SC reviewing the case), Machilipatnam port (AP govt reviewing this one also), Coastal corridor ( reveresed by ap govt). We just learned about titanium deals. OH do not forget bayyaram deals.
When you are ready to confront those realities, we can talk.

Ms. Patkar visited Gollavilli, Challapalli, S. Yanam, N. Kothapalli, and Allipara villages in Uppalaguptam mandal of the Konaseema region, where fishermen lost their livelihood due to oil spills. Farmers have also lost heavily as their fertile lands have been affected by salinity and erosion.truthbetold wrote:do you know how many farmers were displaced for drilling in that in deep sea for gas? Though the farmers of the K-G basin area were producing 1.50 lakh tonnes of paddy, both State government and politicians were not giving any importance to them.
CAG report
She recalled that the CAG report of 2006 clearly mentioned that operations of Reliance in K-G basin should not continue as they would affect the fishing community in that area

EAS Sarma, former secretary of the Government of India, has again raised the issue of land subsidence in the Krishna Godavari (KG) basin due to the gas development work being carried out by Reliance Industries (RIL). The natural gas development by RIL is adversely impacting agricultural activity in the fertile “rice bowl” area of the Godavari districts in Andhra Pradesh, Mr Sarma said in a letter sent to chief secretary-AP, secretary-ministry of environment & forests (MOEF) and secretary-ministry of petroleum.
