HYDERABAD: With barely days to go before polls, candidates of all parties are resorting to desperate 'poly-tricks' to win votes that have left wedding planners, butchers and even the local samosa walas stunned in Andhra Pradesh.

Not just weddings, any social event in their respective constituencies is turning out to be a blessing in disguise for contesting candidates, who A few days ago K Revanth Rao — the AAP candidate from Amberpet — gatecrashed a wedding and dashed towards the stage holding a broom while his party workers looked for him outside.

Before the newlyweds could react, Rao grabbed the microphone and began speaking while startled guests stared at equally bemused followers who were walking in holding brooms, the AAP party symbol.

"His 'jhadu' wielding followers distributed pamphlets among us before walking away," a guest said.

Lakshmaiah, who is contesting from Jangaon constituency in Warangal district, held the cricket bat high and urged voters to root for him, much to the amusement of the children present.

Congress MP and Secunderabad candidate Anjan Kumar Yadav was seen cooking at a roadside stall, while party colleague Sama Krishna Reddy, contesting from Hyderabad parliamentary constituency, has fried samosas. "The stall owner was shocked but what could he do as sir insisted he would definitely fry some samosas and make the locals eat," a party worker said.

Congress candidate from Amberpet assembly constituency, V Hanumantha Rao, known for his theatrics, took a municipal worker's broom and started sweeping in front of a house, as embarrassed locals urged him to stop.

Actress Jayasudha who is seeking re-election from the Secunderabad Assembly seat on a Congress ticket is trying to charm voters in her own way. At a roadside stall, the actress stopped by to a help a woman iron some clothes. Of course, she did not do it for free. He not only makes it a point to interact with morning walkers but also parents and employees who are on their way to drop their children or headed for work.

YSR Congress Vizag East contestant Vamsi Krishna even went to the extent of posing for photographs with dhobis at a dhobi-ghat in his constituency. Even as many dhobis going about their job were amused, he posed with a cloth that was ready to be washed, all to gain crucial votes and ensure a brighter political future.

>>> Naturally, doing the actual cleaning, sweeping and cooking etc. for voters to get their support in the elections are better than the politicians just appearing on the satge with folded hands, doing 'namaskara' and smiling to get votes.
