Karuna Shukla is Vajpayee's niece. She was in the BJP for almost three decades and then left the party alleging shabby treatment from the new BJP leadership. She then joined the Congress and is a Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Chattisgarh.

On twitter, it is being said that Karuna Shukla is currently touring Varanasi campaigning for the Congress candidate Ajay Rai. She is alleging that Modi is guilty of murdering the Brahmin leader Haren Pandya who was a senior BJP leader from Gujarat and was found dead in mysterious circumstances after he had developed serious differences with Narendra Modi.
