Nirmala Sitaraman
Naidu accommodates BJP for getting Union minister for Commerce/Industry Nirmala Sitaraman elected to Rajyasabha from Seemandhra. He did this even when she actively supported Telangana state formation in the past. First link below is the news item about the accommodatation (btw she got elected to Rajya Sabha unanimously), followed by the video of a 2-min snippet from her public speach on Telangana formation.

Re: Nirmala Sitaraman
She was just peddling the BJP line. The Telangana strategy of BJP facilitated the unthinking greed and eventual demise of CONmen in AP/T.
I don't believe Nirmala or her husband is pro-Telangana. They lived in Narsapuram for years before moving to Hyderabad. KCR, 'KD' Rama Rao and Kavitakka look at her as a 'settler'.
Recently, she was in Chennai. Someone asked her what is on her agenda these days. She said that she and the other central ministers from AP are working hard to do as much as possible to reverse the damage done to her state by the CON-approach to partition. She apparently was behind the declaration of Goyal for 24/7 electricity for AP.
Let us just wait and see.

I would say it was a clever move by CBN. In my opinion, even though just MoS, Nirmala is a very important person today for the country's economy. In addition to Commerce portfolio, she is also MoS for finance & Corporate affairs , aiding Jaitely. Jaitely is not an economist by training, but she is.Vakavaka Pakapaka wrote:She was just peddling the BJP line. I am pretty sure folks will be studying her research papers and past utterances, to figure out her overall economic philosophy. The only worry is that, she was affiliated with JNU, a leftist institution (She almost completed her Ph.D there).
In addition there are reports that Planning Commission's work on distribution of funds might be moved to finance ministry. There are even reports that 5 year plan itself might be scrapped in and replaced by yearly plans.
So OTOH, Naidu has made a good move. On the one hand he has won (IOU's) from BJP for helping Nirmala, and in addition, has been instrumental in getting the VIP of finance elected to parliament.
The only issue with revenue deficits, is that it is very difficult to distribute largesse, to only one state. There are many states like Bihar and Orissa clamouring for special assistance. They may have to re-jig the formula used to determine special assistance.
Admin: Please note the spell checker seems to be primitive. It is not able to recognize largesse as a standard english word.

Yeah, I read earlier that they tried her native TN first, But that proved too much of a DMK country. Then they tried Kartnataka. Karnataka protested they elected enough non-Kannadigas already to the Rajya Sabha. They didn't even bother to ask KCR/Telangana because they didn't have any vacant slots, nor were they prepared to create a vacancy for a non-Telanganaite since Telangana is already a reality, and with their parochial view they saw no need to help her. Then N. Janardan Reddy died and his seat fell vacant. Naidu was asked, and he delivered.

Janardan Reddy's seat was promised to her from the beginning. Her link to TN is weak.indophile wrote:Yeah, I read earlier that they tried her native TN first, But that proved too much of a DMK country. Then they tried Kartnataka.
