Putin boxed in

Putin was riding a wave after Crimea. His approach to Ukrainian issue was always confusing. He supported rebels but openly said he is not supporting them.
Now his rebels shot a civilian plane down. This outrages every one including friends of russia and even russian people. But what is worse is his inability to recognize how badly he misjudged the situation and move fast to distance himself from the rebels. Instead he is still quiet while rebels are disturbing the accident evidence.
With a determined US pushing for boxing putin into a corner, he has not shown his well known self preservation techniques. He is acting more like saddam like a deer caught in headlights. He still has time to recover but he has to act fast and transparently. By early next week he has to arrange for rebels giving up evidence. He will regain some prestige if he can isolate the rebel group responsible for the shooting and hand them over.
Otherwise, putin is in for a long isolation and slow loss of popularity in his own country.

Russia and Putin are awfully quiet. I bet they are upto something. Just bcz the rebels are pro-russians and use russian weapons does not mean Russian are responsible. Unless, US can show evidence of active communication and commands between Russians and the rebels specifically regarding shooting down any civilian aircraft, there is no REAL case. of course the West - mainly the US - are simply stretching the thin facts to corner the Russians.
This will come back to haunt the US in the iSraeli-palestinian conflict. Worse, the Ruskies might bite the bullet and simply roll in their tanks and take over the easterm Ukraine.
What can the West do? Really, nothing... as the Ruskies are already planning long-term including arming Syria, Palestinians, increase presence in Belarus and surround Latvia and estonia, and close the gas tap. US can ship gas - raise energy prices in Europe and US messing with the economy.
US is an expert in messing up foreign issues. I am buying Oil ETF.

Didn't Russia already "annex" the area under dispute? what is the current fight about? What are the so called rebels rebelling against?

Ok...you should dig up the numerous threads that discussed Ukraine 3 months back. Read about Ukraine from Wiki. You will understand and will need it for the next 2 months - not to mention the probably impact on the market.
