what caught my attention was even the Indian newspapers noted the first woman getting the award but nothing much at all about the Indian who also got it.

Add Kalpana Chawla to the list. She was an American citizen who married a white American and still the Indian media couldn't stop gushing about her.Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:MaxEntropy_Man wrote:probably because the person you're referring to is canadian.

And the Pandya woman - niece of Haren Pandya - the Gujju home minister supposedly done in by Modi ji in 2001 or 2002.
I thin kthe Indian media just blinked and RSSing phoren reports w/o reading them - just like Al-Akbari's Tamil news report.

i make no judgments about who is indian and who isn't, but one difference in who the indian media may be interested in could be based on country of birth. all the people mentioned in this discussion were born in india.

Is Manjul supposed to be the masculine version of Manjula?

iran is really a misunderstood country in many ways. it has excellent educational institutions, many of their youth are quite liberal, and are yearning to break free of the shackles imposed by the mullahcracy. someone posted an article here a while ago about the underground sex scene in tehran including mass orgies. it almost read like a scene from eyes wide shut.

you're talking about the upper classes. the upper classes in all countries live in luxury and have a lot of freedom, they have access to excellent education and are liberal and have pre-marital sex. and so very often they are not representative of the general population. in a country like the us, almost all people have access to these rights and freedom so iran is not really a misunderstood country, you just need to improve your understanding of the upper class bubble.
