1)...Who has NEVER paid any bribe in their life for anything?

if not,

2) what is the largest bribe amount you have ever paid for anything?

I paid some Rs 12,000 "extra fees" (at various levels) while transacting some house document worth some 10 Lakhs (in 95)

Twice as I recall. Once, to get my own properties certified by MRO. Another time at Mumbai customs, I was left with no choice despite refusing, I told them they can attest on the passport so I can take those items (I had no receipts) back to the US but they didn't and wouldn't let me go till they got what they wanted.

>>>Almost everything related to property transfer or the income tax office in India has required shelling out of money. I haven't kept track of the numbers or what form it took, but these "gifts" have been part of transacting business. There seem to be more or less standard numbers which people are aware of and there doesn't seem to be any shame in expecting this on the part of the officials. It is either this or you should know someone. If you know the right people, things get done. If you rely on systems to work, good luck. At least, this has been my experience.
