What I heard on TV is that Putin is the richest man in Russia and perhaps in europe.  So he is becoming more and more autocratic.  The old effective politician Putin is gone and now a self serving leader seems to be emerging.  His policies are self destructive and are hurting russian economy and slowing european economic recovery.  There is no good end to his aggressive policies.  

A russian public revolt or a an external defeat (sort of afghanistan) or even successive local level electoral defeats may bring him down.
