Will sachin stay around long enough to avoid a whitewash?
Will Sachin stay around long enough to save India from a 4-0? Only time will tell. The whole Indian batting management is bizzare. Why would you send Rahul Back after he played for such a long time? isn't he the only guy who can save you by sticking around? Why not Sehwag and Gambhir or Dhoni?
Without Dravid, India has almost no chance of forcing a draw. The best India could do will be force England to bat again. A 10 wicket loss. 4-0. No difference.
When will India start fighting? Where has the will to fight gone? Why was india afraid to drop Raina in the 4th test and give Abhinav or Virat a chance?
This series will be a big blot on sachin's record if he fails to deliver tomorrow.
For India, this is a massive disaster after world cup and Test #1 ranking.

gambhir was injured, #4 won't budge from his spot, laxman isn't quite himself in this series and anyway hates the opening spot, the less said of raina the better. well guess who else could have volunteered to open the innings with sehwag? wonder why the most obvious of choices didn't occur to captain courageous.

It was inhumane to expect/ask Dravid to go back and open the innings the second time around. SRT should have put his hand up.
SRT has never batted at #3 as well in his career. Quite strange. They were saying on TV that it is some superstition about the number 3 - not sure if they were kidding but given that SRT was an ardent devotee of sai baba, I wouldn't be too surprised if that is indeed the case.

The facts on the ground are pointing to a great opportunity for Sachin to regain some of his pride and prestige. He can shut several people off by playing a long defiant knock. The ammunition Indian tank is empty and only option left is Sachin.

SRT Could have and should have opened the innings with Sehwag. Isn't he with Sehwag the nest opening pair in ODI ?
What is the difference ? Isn't he the bestest, most skilled, most dedicated, most UNSELFISH, master blaster who can teach every team a thing or two ? Isn't he the one who will be opening with sehwag in the ODIs starting next week ?
What is his problem opening in the 2nd innings ?

why doesn't tendulkar want to open in test matches any more? is he scared of the new ball? also doesn't he still open in ODIs?

These are questions to be posed to the team management, MS, not to me. He won't be opening with Sehwag because Sehwag is not going to be around for the ODIs.

even if somebody suggests it, i won't believe it for a second. sachin has nothing to prove to anyone. he just has a thing about batting at #4; call it an obsession if you will. greater than 12,000 of his 14000 + runs have come from the #4 spot. the rest of the team has always obliged him. and the question of "anymore" doesn't arise. cricinfo says he has opened the innings once in test matches in his entire career.
i was referring to the captain himself offering to open instead of poor dravid who batted his heart out for 6+ hours and carried the bat through heroically in the first innings.

one series doesn't a blot make. if that were true, IND's previous away series (before this one) in SA would have left a blot* on dravid's career. has it? several failures of lara in india would have left a blot on his career. have they? ponting's own failures in IND would have left a blot on his series, but have they?

Indeed it will leave a blot. Ponting is constantly remainded of his failures in India till he made some scores recently. Scores matter in context. Dravid's below average performance in SA is over shadowed by his team's performance. Sachin has no cover and all eyes were on him all through the tour. His accomplishments will be remembered along with this tour of misery.

$kar was goner. He never delivered in a second innings anyway. So nothing to worry. His one 50 and one 90 scores have reserved his place in the team for next 5 years. Congratulation$ Mr. 10$kar you did India bery bery proud!
