The Goundars win one
Various organisations, caste outfits in his home town Thiruchengodu, around 410 km from here, protested against his novel ‘Madorubhagan’, whose story revolves around the problems faced by a childless peasant couple and the woman's attempt to get pregnant following a tradition of consensual sex with a stranger. He was forced to withdraw the book and unconditionally apologise for it.
The book would have brought out into open the practices followed sometime within the great Goundar caste.

Of course... I was there last week.
The reason no one is protesting is it is a turf war between DMK and ADAMK. The BJP has nothing to lose and hence trying to fish in troubled waters to get a foothold. The funny part is BJP is often the second choice for the stubborn among the DMK/ADMK cadre. BJP fortunes will swing once Amma and MK croak.

Is there a reason you are asking this of His Holiness?

There are a lot of remote rural areas that practice the old tradition - in Kolli, Pachaimalai, and Servarayan hills. Only in the last 10 years there have been regular bus service and exposure to the "urban" life. Namakkal itself was small, the size of Mylapore+Mandveli, until 25 years ago.
So it is still possibly practiced (quietly) in rare cases (No one can prove it unless a video is put on youtube).
P.S. By the time I thought of doing this volunteer service, I came to US.
