Excerpts
Jihadi organizations in Kerala are said to have issued threatening letters to the state's Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob, in lieu of the Centre's directive of taking photographs of women while issuing new ration cards.
The letters of threat cite "loss of women's privacy" if their photographs are taken. The letters are also said to have warned the minister of dire consequences if the practice is continued.
“We have received some threat letters from some religious organizations. They have warned the Minister that he will face dire consequences if the new rule of issuing ration card to women is not withdrawn,” the minister’s office disclosed to an English media house. However, names of the religious organisations involved remain undisclosed.
The letters are also said to have questioned the Government's directive seeking the fixing of ration cards in the name of eldder women members of the family.
According to central government civil supplies rule the ration card should be issued in the name of the eldest member of each family. It has been implemented in all parts of India without any opposition.
Jihadi groups in Kerala cites Shariat laws forbidding women to be head of families, and ration cards to be issued in their names seems unislamic!
