I am not into painting...however, of late i have come to admire "pencil" drawings that depict objects and scenaries in a realistic 3-d feel.

oh it's nothing. one of my grandparents did pencil drawings and none of the drawings here can match those. I'm not kidding. He won the Andhra state award for art. He married into the family, he's not actually my blood.

so... we went y'day. booked the 9:30 pm timing as e'thing else before it was sold out.

liked the artwork... very colorful and bright. Was interesting to see how he made that, and read some stories and interactions regarding those. I lack the ability to study art for its theme, message, or anything beyond that. Plus, the place was packed, so could not stop and read e'thing. Older said we could have just gone to our elementary school to see cut out artwork on the walls. Got an eye roll from me.

other highlights:

- there were probably 5 brown people in the exhibition, including us 4.

- saw many kinds of hair colors, different shades of pink and purple, colored over black or white hair, long and short hair, on men and women, old and young.

- saw a lez couple right infront of us with very very odd hairstyle. Was a good timepass in the long line hearing them talk.

- saw a gay couple making out in the middle of the exhibition. Had forgotten this scene in last 2-3 years, now that I no longer work in the city. Two such tall, pretty looking men, what a waste, sigh. But the kiss was delicious looking, better than many you have seen in the movies. Neatly and fully done. I just watched for 2-3 seconds and looked away, as it wouldn't have looked civilized to stand and stare. Older was amused as it was probably her first time watching this, or watching this realtime on grownups (God knows what all she has watched in school and movies). Son was audibly shocked, and asking questions on why are they so public and men, but older sorta handled him and told him that they are in love or something.

- when we were in the line, a woman came out of nowhere, and began telling older how beautiful she is. Then she stood there for another 20-30 seconds saying it over and over to her, us, others, how beautiful older is, like a model, this that. This is second or third time this year that a random woman has come and said so to older. Usually, everytime XH is with her (this time I was looking away, and actually the woman was a bit startled when I turned back to see who was talking). There's something about XH, a friendly aura... woman always feel free to approach and there's something about me, everyone retreats a little.

- had dinner at a korean bbq before going to the museum. Was the first time for the kids. Was fun teaching older how to make the wraps. Food was good. I had Soju for the first time. First 2 or 3 shots gave a decent heady buzz. 5th one made me nauseous, and the buzz was gone, so I stopped. It was end of dinner anyway. 5 minutes later, nausea was gone too. Some weird alcohol.

- now the best part of the night. Got street parking right across the street, at both the bbq place and the museum. XH was like, I think this is our lucky night, let's buy lottery tix too.

thanks. my weekend activities so far are easy to summarize -- i shoveled snow.

@BK...LOL@at your observations and experience at the exhibition. The pix that you posted, they look like designs on cotton sarees. Nice!

you can see the entire exhibition in the original link i posted including lots of detail about henri mattise's art and life.

there was a subset of these very same matisse paintings at an exhibition at the peabody essex last year. one advantage living in a smaller market is that the crowds aren't so crazy like the thirupathi jargandi jargandi scene, but the collection was also smaller.
