Investment by OCI/PIO now non-repatriable
......Investments by non-resident Indians (NRIs), overseas citizens of India (OCIs) and persons of Indian origin (PIOs) will now be treated as domestic investment, the government said. They will not be allowed to repatriate the money overseas....The underlying thinking is that this could stoke a fresh round of fund flows into the country (?????).
Does it mean NRIs cannot reconvert into dollars and bring it out of India ???? at all????

Dear NRI Patriot brethren, this is a test of your patriotism. If your heart truly beats for India, why would you want to pull your money out of your motherland? Your impoverished home country needs your dollars more than your adopted country. So do the right thing. Invest more in India and get free passes for Modiji's concerts on his next tour stateside.

Re: Investment by OCI/PIO now non-repatriable
Read again. Indian govt is saying the non repatriable investment by nris will be treated more favorably than fdi. That means no fdi limitations on sectors or % limitations within retail and other sectors.
Repatriable investments will continue to be treated as fdi.
Now restart your discussion.
Not sure if Agri lands are open for investment. Agri lands cannot be purchased by even urban Indian citizens.

Could you elaborate as to what you mean by the above please? Is that the case in Andhra and Telangana? I heard some stuff about changes introduced to registration practices but nothing like this.truthbetold wrote:

Cd
Nri's (non citizens) cannot buy agricultural land in any state in India. Several states also prohibit non farmers buying Agricultural lands by law.
Case of big B buying some agri lands near Pune was in papers some years ago.
Try nriinformation.com or Google buying agricultural lands in India.
