I heard the boy say "standard eight"; I didn't understand much else.

middle class boys of indian origin whether they grow up in india or outside of india always look very well fed these days. a bunch of friends were trading old photographs from our freshman year in college and somebody remarked how lean and hungry we all looked, compared with the well fed boy look in vogue today.

girls look malnourished or is "well fed" an euphemism? what could the reason be?

Max:

Eating habits have changed. When I was a kid, we weren't allowed to snack. We were given three meals at predictable intervals. Also, no food was given without a pooja and how we ate was carefully observed. The meals were nutritionally balanced. We used to walk to school (mine was far away) and did a lot of walking for most daily chores. So, most carbs were burnt and there was very little opportunity to store as fat. Eating in restaurants was taboo and I didn't eat outside until I went to college! Even when we were travelling, my mother used to make food for us to carry.

These days, the urbanites (and many in rural areas) eat like pigs and do no exercise to burn the calories. So, they are chubby and are becoming candidates for hypertension, diabetes, etc.

you are hereby awarded a honorary degree by columbia university for correcting random typos by random people in random sites for random years. the effort surpasses any such achievement by man or machine at any time in human history.

the guinness book of world records also applauds this achievement and will note it right under the entry of the man holding the record for wearing the longest moustache in the world.
