How to quit an online forum---silently or by posting about it ??
The downside about posting that you are going to quit is that it becomes a topic of discussion for members of the forum , and inevitably snide remarks are passed on the quitting individual by other members of the forum . Secondly , the quitting member is accused of attention seeking behaviour .
But quitting silently means that you are not committing to quit , and may be attracted to posting again on the forum on some topic you find interesting . Posting that you are going to quit means that you are committing to quit and once committed , you find it difficult to come back as the discussion on the topic and the snide remarks have been made---this making the quitting a big issue , which ensures that the quitting ID does not come back .
So I feel that the quitter must post about the quitting in order to ensure that the quitting is for real .

Rashmun doesn't care about what others think. Even if you drag him on a floor with broken glass, he will not quit and continue to say, Babar is great, Jalaluddin saved India by sleeping with Rajput women, Aurangazeb worshipped kafir lingam and Doggy is a maryaada purushottam........

Vakavaka what is the connection between your post and the post of the original poster? Your Rashmun-Obsession is mildly amusing.

Given that you hate so many people i would not be surprised if you are confusing me with someone else.

But any "quit notice" is applicable only to that particular handle. Also, semantics and grammar rules can be applied to nullify any such notice - if at all it is issued, even then it may not be true, and if it is true it may not be truthful, and finally even if truthful, it can be revoked.

research shows when we announce something, we tend to do it compared to when we don't announce.
For example, if you'e planning to climb the Everest, tell everyone you know you're planning to climb the Everest. Chances are you will go to climb the mountain. If you kept it to yourself, chances are you'll not go.
my vote - announce/post about it.

it applies to the person and their decision to quit.Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:seven wrote:research shows when we announce something, we tend to do it compared to when we don't announce.

i see what you mean though. The person can come back with a new handle and then s/he would have simply retired the previous handle. We are talking about quitting. Like qb, kripamaya and others did when we moved to SuCH from sulekha. not come back. quit in true sense.
