Hanks plays Donovan, an insurance lawyer, who had the foresight to fight against the death penalty for a Russian spy so he could be used for an exchange in the event of an american spy being apprehended by the Soviets. That soon comes to pass when Gary Powers getting shot down while flying over Russian airspace in a spy plane. Hanks' performance is excellent as a principled lawyer and a gutsy negotiator. Lots of history and complications with the raising of the Berlin wall and the undercurrents between the Russians and the East Germans. Definitely worth seeing.
