On a National Language for India
Not sure who said this and it is not verbatim:
If Hindi should be the Indian national language for having the most number of speakers, the crow should be the national bird of India for being the largest population of birds in India.

C.N. Annadurai said that many times but he may be quoting someone. I do not know.

Re: On a National Language for India
Whoever thinks we should use number to decide what should be our national bird is an idiot.
Bird is symbolic. What qualities it has that we, as a nation, strive for, stand for. That's why crow was not a good choice.
Language otoh is any language that majority people speak/understand becomes your de facto national language.
If your language was not picked, you get bitter and suggest we should not use number for language to determine what should be the national language because birds and animals and flowers are not chosen based on numbers, you look like an angry idiot.

Crow has a better case than Hindi. Crows are found all over India.Hellsangel wrote:Not sure who said this and it is not verbatim:If Hindi should be the Indian national language for having the most number of speakers, the crow should be the national bird of India for being the largest population of birds in India.

as you know, india doesn't have a national language. but if we insisted on having one, hindi will surely be selected, if the criterion were:seven wrote:Whoever thinks we should use number to decide what should be our national bird is an idiot.

1. the language spoken by the group with the largest number of illiterates in the population;
2. the language spoken by the group with the largest number of rapists in the population;
3. the language spoken by the group performing the largest number of female feticides in the country.

Illiteracy is not a crime you know. It's better than becoming like you, literate online spelling corrector.
Tamilnadu rapes trump Hindi rapists. Also counting rapists to decide national language is a suggestion that can only come from a literate online grammar corrector like you.

I am still intrigued by your picking on someone who was just trying to help the OP identify the person that made the statement; if you found the post inflammatory, you should be asking the OP, as it's the OP who found it worthwhile to post it, init?

These rapists are not natives (TN citizens). Most are migrants from Hindi lands. Here is some information

Re: On a National Language for India
again, crow is ubiquitous and easily accessible to essentially all households in india. all indians have personable experience with crows- i am not sure that would be case with peacocks.
This is somewhat like those confined to relatively warmer/hot climates all through the year are at a total loss and are frustrated in school, when 'baba black sheep..' and at a later stage 'daffodils' and such are shoved down their throats, as they can't relate to those remote things that can be viewed only as distant magical stuff - of course, before internet and all.

I like what a peacock symbolizes. Not crow. The quote suggested it should be the number that decides what should be our national bird. I said I don't think it should be the number but what it symbolizes.

Please enlighten us on what does a peacock symbolize vis-a-vis a crow that would enable every Indian relate to it.

all those attributes you have listed are very poetic and they are only just that..
Solidarity and sharing are among the much required core values of the citizens of any country, by definition; these traits are integral to crows which they relentlessly exhibit all the time helping people understand their values. You may romanticize peacocks just because they are exotic, but then, that is inconsequential and irrelevant in its representation as a national symbol.
this birds argument is all just diversion; let us stick to the OP, focus on why do you shun away from addressing your issues with the content of the OP and the poster's objective in posting it?

I don't understand I'm sorry. What does it mean that I am shunning away from addressing my issue?
Idk HA's objective. I wasn't responding to his objective. If you're asking why i wasn't, well bcz I'm not interested in his objective.
I didn't understand your question about me shunning away from addressing my issues.
I have an issue with crow being suggested as India's national bird and I voiced it.
Pls dumb down your question so I can understand. Then I can reply.
