It is not that difficult to understand. Crime went down by 40% in the same time frame. So did gun violence. Wide spread gun availability , semi automatic guns, easy availability of guns and lack of proper regulations are all real problems.

Guns in the hands of improper hands, street criminals, gangs, extremists of all kinds and mentally ill people are directly related to gun violence. That is where more solutions must be found.

Misuse of occasional statistics or graphs does not mean statistical tools are false. Without statistics, scientific reasoning would be impaired.

Statistical tools are great and it is the interpreters of the results who are crooks.

The data and Statistical conclusions dont mean a thing to the scores of innocents killed - albeit in reduced number of incidents due to gun.

i haven't read TBT's article, but my guess is that gun deaths and gun violence in the US has gone down because the general crime rates have gone down. however, that says nothing about the rate and frequency of mass shootings which kill a large number of people in one event. that's what is enabled by the easy availability of semi automatics and automatics.
