Poor and landless upper caste people in Bihar to get 3 decimal land for constructing home
PATNA: Bihar's revenue and land reforms minister Madan Mohan Jha on Sunday said the state government would provide three decimal land each to poor and landless people hailing from upper castes.
"If no 'gair-mazarua' (government) land is available in a particular area, the government will purchase land from private land owners and distribute them among poor upper caste families," Jha told TOI after holding a 'janata durbar' at the state Congress headquarters Sadaquat Ashram here.
Recounting his priorities, Jha said 'purcha' (papers to claim rights of land) for lakhs of acres of land have been distributed among thousands of landless poor in the past several years. However, in most of the cases, the 'purcha' holders are yet to get actual possession. "The state government would soon launch a special drive to ensure that 'purcha' holders get possession of their land. The government would also identify lakhs of acres of 'missing' Bhoodan land and distribute them among the poor families. Settling the issues pertaining to Khas Mahal land will be the other priority of the government," Jha said.
The minister added that officials of Bhoodan Yagna Committee have been asked to name at least two districts where the government could distribute Bhoodan land among the landless. "The officials have suggested me the names of Purnia, Gaya and Vaishali districts. I will visit these districts in February 2016," the minister said.
As per a recent decision taken by Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC), all ministers of the Congress will spend a day every week at the party office to hear grievances of Mahagathbandhan workers as well as common people. Sunday was the turn of Jha. Earlier on Friday, animal and fishery resources minister Awadesh Kumar Singh sat at Sadaquat Ashram and heard grievances of the party workers and commoners.

Did the minister get the permission of his pet vote-bank before announcing this measure?

He probably did. Anyway, 3 decimal land is quite small, barely enough to make a one (or may be 2) bedroom house with a small kitchen. Note, 1 decimal land is 1/100 of an acre ( or about 40.5 sq meter), so 3 decimal land promised by the Govt. to each family is about 121 sq meter (about 35 ft x 35 ft area).Vakavaka Pakapaka wrote:Did the minister get the permission of his pet vote-bank before announcing this measure?
