Women power -- women voters outnumber men in Kangra dist.

Dharamsala (H.P.), January 12
Women outnumbered men in the second phase of polling at Kangra today. In the elections to 371 panchayats, 82 per cent women exercised their franchise while 72 per cent men cast their vote. There are 2,57,298 registered male voters in 371 panchayats, out of which, 1,87,376 exercised their franchise.
Out of the total 2,52,538 female voters, 2,07,378 voted today. The overall poll percentage in Kangra was 77.43.
The elections to the panchayat samitis and zila parishads were also held today. From 56 wards of the zila parishad, 315 candidates contested whereas there were 1,608 candidates from 345 wards of the panchayat samiti.
The results of the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections will be declared on January 15. The polling remained peaceful in Kangra district. Voting began on a tardy note, but huge turnout was witnessed in the evening.
