An easier way to put this would be - would you rather be treated by a doctor who became a doctor by merit and hard work or one who got through medical school through the quota system?

Not only his father even his grandmother had on video recording confessed that they belong to Vaddera community. This settles that Rohit is not a Dalit but belongs to BC (or OBC) category. And the ABVP candidate who was beaten by Rohit and friends and the MP Dattatreya who wanted action all belong to BC. So there is not high-caste low-caste fight here. Just of political opportunism on the lines of 'award wapsi'.

His mother was very definitely a dalit. His grandmother was not a dalit because she was not his biological grandmother, she had adopted his mother. His adoptive grandmother would treat his mother like a servant:

His Mom had claimed in an affidavit filed for her second son that they are born 'vaddera' caste. Even these filings are in public domain now. Award wapsi morphed this issue into a Dalit discrimination one.
