Several gaps in the story.
The UT Austin guy is the truly legit and explainable. The rest are from med Schools or Business schools - mainly finance and investment (Their starting salaries are closer to 125K -140 K as Asst Prof).
Some are "adjunct profs" Really... they are paid high bcz they head 'Endowment funds' or semi-industry organization within their universities.
Emeritus professor making more than a $mil ? HOW ? he is making that money as part of royalty money on patents he might jointly hold.
To club everything in one pool is doing a disservice and discouraging to potential academicians in Biology, Physical Sciences, and other fields.
Hey...did you check the salary of the president of Silicon Valley University ? I bet he makes more than the #1 prof on this list.

Re: the highest-paid professors
the starting salary of a ph.d. in finance from a top 30 university going to work as an assistant professor (AP) at the business school of a top 50 university in 2016 is about 220k, for nine months; with the usual summer support of 2/9 of 220k, the total is about 270k.Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:swapna wrote:...in the u.s., and therefore, in the world, most likely:

There are thousands of professors in US alone and you listed the top 10. and the #10 is making around 500K after some 30 years of exp. What is there to gloat. Just shows why people dont opt for academic jobs as the only way to get higher salary is to join the in-crowd and become an administrator. Most of the top 10 also hold an admin position.
what is the salary of a #10 in Electronic industry, Wall Street, medical field or corporate administration or even Basketball coaching? In a way, it is a sad state of affairs for academicians.
