To people using the names Eklavya and Sambuka to justify caste for quotas in education and jobs
Ever heard the names of Satyakama, Vyasa and Valmiki during the ancient times, who had Sudra (dalit) connections by birth (either one parent or both) but they all became brahmins and great sages after acquiring Vedic education --- “Caste exploitation and what can dalits do to stop it?” (https://such.forumotion.com/t31822-caste-exploitation-and-what-can-dalits-do-to-stop-it-a-repeat-post-shows-people-approaching-the-un-to-internationalize-the-caste-issue)?
As for Eklavya and Sambuka cited in some essays / articles for their Sudra / dalit status to justify caste in quotas, that is highly debatable according to a serious study of ancient texts.
Eklavya’s situation, for example, was the result of Dronacharya’s exclusive contract with Hastinapur royals (to teach and be responsible for the education and welfare of Kaurava and Pandava princes only) and not because Eklavya was a Sudra / dalit, as explained in “Caste through the sands of time” (Section ‘B’ -- https://such.forumotion.com/t9184-historical-perspective-on-caste).
The reference to Sambuka (based on Uttara Ramayana or Uttarakanda) similarly is highly questionable, considering Valmiki, as the original author of the Ramayana who was a Sudra / dalit himself to start with, makes no mention of any such thing or person (Sambuka or his story) in his own version of Ramayana ….. “A comment about Uttarakanda or Uttara Ramayana” (https://such.forumotion.com/t9133-uttarakanda-uttara-ramayana-discussion-contd)

The openness in Hinduism has allowed shortsighted Sikular Sages to write imaginative stories. Their modern counterparts are those who write about Aurangajeb worshiping a kafir lingam, Hindus enjoying cow meat, Jalaluddin doing a bhajan to Krishna, etc.

Re: To people using the names Eklavya and Sambuka to justify caste for quotas in education and jobs
Someone (an ex-IITian) emailed me his reaction to the above implying that it is difficult for people (the potential students from so-called “low” caste / working families) to get into the IITs etc. without the help of caste quotas in admissions, considering especially that they (their parents) might have a hard time paying for special coaching classes etc. for college entrance / admission tests (e.g. JEE).
Here is my response to him and others in the following.
“I didn't take any special classes or coaching and still managed to get into IIT based on the written (JEE) test. I also used to walk (about) 8 miles (2 hrs.) each way every day from my village (Ansoli, H.P.) to my college in Dharamshala (during grade 12) right before heading to IIT. My father (family in farming) could barely afford to send me Rs. 150 / month at IIT. The criterion for Govt. should be to dispense assistance (preferably as student grants, loans and scholarships) according to the (current) economic condition (necessity) of the family / candidate and not encourage and allow the system in the form of freebies (including admissions) based on caste (long ago ancestral family occupation or status) and the real and imaginary ancient tales.” S.C.S.

that's impressive Seva, but then did you have any choice? an easier option? - like the one that you've briefed above.

Thanks for the compliment GK.
Regarding your question about the easier option for people like myself and others in education etc., it need not be caste based (like the present caste based system is, full of holes and leading to more problems all around), but instead having a system which deals with only the financial necessity of the student / candidate at present and at the same time not undermines the merit and high standard in education and work place,
