Man dies of sunstroke while attending Jayalalithaa’s election meeting in Salem

SALEM: A 55-year-old man died of sunstroke while he was attending Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa's election meeting in Salem on Wednesday.
Police identified the deceased as S Pachiannan of Magudanchavadi in Salem.
Pachiannan reached the meeting venue at Magudanchavadi around 12.30pm and was waiting for Jayalalithaa. Thousands of people from Salem and nearby districts had assembled at the venue since morning to listen to Jayalalithaa's speech.
At 3.40pm, around the time when Jayalalithaa reached the venue, he swooned and was taken to a primary health centre at Magudanchavcedi. He was referred to Salem Super Speciality Hospital. However, he died on the way to hospital.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters at Vikravandi in Villupuram district, DMK treasurer M K Stalin said Jayalalithaa should answer how the man died at her meeting venue.
