Too uncertain.

it's probably like NYC, manhattan - to live by the east river, at 10021, the vicinity of 15 blocks E/W and up to Lex is great - never had to look ever the shoulder, even in the small hours, but anything beyond can get iffy, and gets worse farther.

yes biggest city in north texas is dallas, tx and is one of the safest large metros in the country, with a disciplined police force and relatively decent community relations. how many thugs or other protesters got shot after the cowardly incident? 0. how many civilians died in the terrorist incident in garland a fewmonths ago? 0. compare that to your northern and midwestern dysfunctional cities with aggressive thugs ruling the roost and police force pushed to the limits by race baiting assholes.

i did, at new york, ny 10022; 1st ave and 53rd st, one block from turtle bay and the east river; walked to work at 320 park ave (and 50th st., opp st bartholomew's church, and.the waldorf astoria), a 15- minute walk across 2nd, madison, and lex, swinging my slim umbrella, humming a beatles tune.

different from misericordia hospital, isn't it, where all the indians from the no-name "medical colleges" in kilpauk end up. psych wards, ja?

the real reason: little or no gujarati is spoken or understood in texas; english, yes; spanish, yes; telega, yes; tamil yes; but gujarati, no.

please also remember, no gujarati is spoken or understood in southern india either; emdavaad and gujarat are best for you. if I were you, I'd stay there.

meenachchi may start protesting on this disproportionate representation in Middlesex. but then, concurrently, she'd be happy that closeted supporters of the 'cause' are coming out, albeit like wussy iyers Wink

applying your 'logic', you moved to Arlington or its vicinity in Texas because of the relatively high 'malayaaLi' density there, i take it...?

let me save you the googling. i don't think the issue is about numbers. i took swapna's post literally; he was urging southindian to live in a place where he felt most comfortable with the majority population's language.

And in the town of the infamous Baptist Church, among Indian languages, Hindi still rules.

so cynical and disparaging, so much contempt oozing outta every pore... get over it maan...there are always people better than and above you, and some below you, errr..even among indians, hahaha ; don't be too quick to judge.

10022 eh? lemme tell you something. just one zip code variation can change, giving you a drastically different neighborhood, like in palo alto - read below.

anyways, first on NYC...hospital that you mentioned..80's is OK but na.. that's a bit off north by very many blocks. I do cherish my days then, it's wonderful to live just by the river/FDR expressway - while my BR window skyline was lit up by citicorp and chrysler buildings in the night, the apt's main hall windows were decorated outside by the vision of three red & white chimneys on the left  (that I liked to take pictures with bracketed exposures, late PMs, with my nikon 8008 at that time), front of Roosevelt island and,  also the Queens borough bridge, and partial sights of barges floating by the river when one looked down  - that was for 5 years and 7 months before I moved to live, off University ave, Palo alto, 94301, first choked by better air quality and the streets were squeaky clean - unlike those random graffiti spray on those dirty wooden blocks protecting the street construction work area in manhattan, in palo alto, they had interesting sketches/drawings on white background painted on construction barriers.  BTW, at the other end, just a couple of miles along University ave, the area code was 94303, East Palo Alto, a nightmare; suffice to stay I always took 280 and totally avoided 101, even if that was shorter from wherever. more later...

Thomas,

Don't ever try talking in Tamil to a redneck with a gun in Texas. He will blow your head off. I know you will not. Smile Stay safe, stay inside and keep posting on SuCH.

of course, now things have changed and i am off to the shrurbs in suburbs; its OK to be back to work there, and that is good actually, but i am not sure i miss living there!

BTW, what's all that about carrying an umbrella*..being a perfect colonial, mimicking those living in london? or keeping your keralite roots? in lungi, perhaps? not in my neighborhood- you need a visa you know, to stroll along with the old ladies walking their poodles, and occasionally you'd get a glimpse of kissinger...
