More outrage: Misuse of executive power to stifle Mahatma Anna's protest

Dear Change-bringing NRI brethren,

There is a new development which should be a source of great moral outrage to all of us. You might recall that Mahatma Anna decided to move his fast from New Delhi to Mumbai because the chilly weather in the capital is not particularly conducive for fasting - the cravings for hot samosas and chai can bend even the steeliest of resolves. Also, Mahatma Anna feared that the nation's attention would get diverted from the fast to the erect nipples of the fasters.

After much due diligence, we zeroed in on the MMRDA grounds in BKC for the convenient location and ample parking that it offers, which market-research has shown is an important consideration for the FB-liking, candle-lighting, i-am-annaing yuppie weekend protestors. But the MMRDA, which is an agency of the evil Empress, is asking an extortionate rent of Rs 2 lacs a day. We estimate that the fast will last a week which means a tab of Rs 14 lacs! How dare these daylight robbers treat Mahatma Anna (and us, the noble Team Anna, victors of the second freedom movement), on par with lowly handicraft vendors and circus operators??

We have already expressed our moral outrage to the CM and demanded that he immediately waive off this amount. But strangely, we have not heard back. So we now demand that the Supreme Court take suo motu cognizance of this outrageous, egregious misuse of executive power to stifle our fundamental right to gather in the tens of thousands at one location to watch Mahatma Anna's historic fast. I ask you now to vent your outrage so our collective voice forces the judiciary to wake up and take suo motu action. Together we can. Be the change you want. Bliss shall be that dawn. Jai Hind.

This is corruption at its worst.

When the poor need to spend more to starve than to eat...

do they really expect over a lakh people to join hazare? i doubt it. this is the last week of DEC. expect people to chill out in Goa and Alibaugh instead of sweating it out at MMRDA.

team anna is better off fasting at Azad Maidan. at least, it will look crowded. MMRDA ground won't.

Dear sir, you are misunderestimating the power of Mahatma Anna's voice. He singlehandedly caused the Congress candidate to lose his deposit in the Hisar by-elections, bringing to power the morally incorruptible, most honest Kuldeep Bishnoi.

And now, you will see the same awesome magnetism draw lakhs and lakhs of people to Mumbai. Forget Goa and Alibaug. We are giving the yuppie crowd their own woodstock and that too, in their own backyard. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for them to be freedomfighters like us.

Dear change-bringers,

I have an update. The SC refused to take suo motu action to check the government's egregious misuse of executive power in refusing to waive off the extortionate rent for the MMRDA grounds, only strengthening our resolve to bring the higher judiciary under the purview of the Jan Lok Pal.

Anyway, to outwit the collective conspiracy to deprive us of a good venue, we - noble members of Team Anna, victors of the second freedom movement - have decided to heed Shri Gupte's advice and stick to Azad Maidan for Mahatma Anna's Holiday Season fast.

I'm also thrilled to inform you that a mammoth crowd of 1,390 mumbaikars have already volunteered for our jail bharo program by SMSing jail mumbai to 57070. We shall flood the prisons of this corrupt government with our awesome people power.

On a different note, I'm glad to inform you that Mahatma Anna has vowed to campaign agains the Congress from this point on, and to confront the evil Empress. He will personally gherao the palace of the Empress and yuvraj to force these puppeteers to come forward and face us, the victors of the second freedom movement.

We shall defeat the Congress and wipe corruption off the face of India. Black money shall be brought back from Switzerland. Boys and girls will not mingle just because they are single. Alcohol shall be banned and alcoholics shall be re-educated. We shall prevail. Together we can. Be the change Anna wants. Jai Hind.

1390 only? a thousand of those will find some sort of an excuse when the day arrives. after all, they don't sell lattes, cappuccinos and gimlets in jails, do they?

next week is going to be fantastic. there is this boxing day test from Monday and this tamasha starting the next day.
