SL Tamils aren't the same as the LTTE and Sikhs aren't the same as Khalistanis. There's a large population of productive and peaceful Thamizhars and Sikhs who have made Canada their home many of whom are likely Trudeau's constituents. He is smart to acknowledge them and wish them on culturally important days.

If I remember correctly some Indian, Malaysian, Singaporean, Sri Lankan, American, British, South African, and Australian Thamizhars also supported the LTTE. What is the relevance of this to Trudeau's wishes or to what I said? The same can be said about Sikhs. When members of a community broken by ethnic strife emigrate it is to be expected that a subset of those who emigrated, bear allegiance to the only agency that was fighting on their behalf in their homeland. I don't agree with the LTTE's methods, but why do you demand morally superhuman behavior from people who are just regular humans like you and me?  I suspect most of them don't actively support the LTTE, but are probably not as ready to distance themselves from the LTTE as Indian Tamils. But there's a vast chasm between abetting a terrorist agency and having a more nuanced view about them.  I have a question for you -- since it is well known and documented that the Sinhala government through its military also visited violence on civilians, do you demand that everyday Sri Lankans distance themselves from their government? I'd like you to answer that keeping in mind that for many helpless, hopeless, and utterly powerless people the LTTE was effectively their government.

American politicians routinely participate in St.Patrick's day parade to show allegiance to Irish Americans. Should they not do that for fear that they may in the process inadvertently show support for the IRA?

Oh one more thing, western governments have a more balanced view of what happened in Sri Lanka than the black and white views of the SL govt as the good guy and the LTTE as the bad guy that most Indians have. The only reason the SL govt is not labeled a terrorist organization is because they are a democratically elected govt. That doesn't mean their excesses are forgiven.

this has nothing to do with donald trump. he could've just wished all indians a happy pongal. telugus do exist in canada and the rest of the world and they also celebrate pongal.
