Telangana before independence was ruled by the Nizams. Coastal Andhra was ruled by the British. After independence it was found that the coastal Andhra people had had access to better education. They performed better in exams for government jobs and soon started getting almost all the government jobs. This is perhaps the origin for the tensions between the people of Telangana and the people of Coastal Andhra.
