===> This woman is supposed to be a "low caste"?

She looks better than Hema Malini of yesteryear.

but fair complexion is? even after 4000 years of churning of the fair skinned aryans (by some accounts mythical) with the dark skinned dravidians, you felt the emperor needed new clothes? that brahmins are fairer in NI is a dangerous generalization not only 'cos it is not correct but 'cos it is bound to give members of your own caste, who do not happen to be fair, a severe complex. one can make such a generalization about kashmir perhaps but not about UP where 20% of india's humanity resides cheek by jowl.

i recall the daughter of a kashmiri poet in anothersubcontinent.com. she was muslim and her moniker was "dark." she was hardly 21/22 then and she was dark complexioned. that is the kind of complexes generalizations can give you.

---> My claim was not about brahmins; it was about upper caste hindus. As per my observation, upper caste hindus tend to be fairer than low caste hindus (despite the inter marriages) especially in North India. This is not to deny that you will find dark complexioned upper caste hindus and fair complexioned low caste hindus.

--> In general, kashmiris will tend to be fairer than other Indians. This is not to deny that there are some Kashmiris who are not particularly fair.

--> Personally i do not have any fascination for fair complexion. The girl i am about to marry is not fair complexioned.

had a kashmiri classmate. was whiter than me, but was considered kaali in her clan. No she didn't make it up, heard someone in her family say so directly on my face. Not as as insult, but as a "correct" categorization.

Rashmun,

Wish you both the very best and much happiness.

If I may, imo..Marriage with all its ups and downs, highs and lows - the sacred bond, when it is at least somewhat like Gibran says- makes it the grandest of all adventures, greatest of all partnerships and companionships..nothing quite like it!

On Marriage

~Kahlil Gibran

"You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.
Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow
."

is this observation predicated on the fact that in south we have, generally, only two castes: brahmins and non-brahmins? my knowledge about the south might be scratchy, i admit, but still, i'd like to learn. i sense you are arguing from a position of informed learning and observation.
