BHUBANESWAR: Murder stemming from superstition reared its ugly head again in Odisha. Close on heels of recent murder of a girl during practice of witchcraft at Jharsuguda, a man allegedly hacked his sister to death in Balangir district on Wednesday to appease a village goddess.
Police arrested the accused Tripura Mallick, 47, from his house at Dangaghata under Balangir Sadar police limits. "We are verifying the superstition angle behind the murder. Neighbours claimed Mallick killed his sister to appease Goddess Kali. We seized the sword using which he killed his 34-year-old sister Ranga Mallick," SP (Balangir) Ashish Kumar Singh told TOI. Police found some materials kept for a puja before Goddess Kali in Mallick's house.
