Eminent Jurist Fali Nariman: "‘Priest as CM, is this the beginning of a Hindu state?’"
Eminent jurist Fali Nariman on Saturday raised questions over the appointment of Yogi Adityanath as the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi “if it is the beginning of a Hindu state”.
Referring to the developments in UP after the polls, he said the Constitution is under “threat” and those who cannot see the motive behind the appointment of Adityanath are either spokespersons of political parties or they must get their head and eyes examined.
“The Prime Minister may deny it but that is my assumption that appointing a particular person...as the chief minister is in itself an indication that he wishes to propagate a religious state,” Nariman said in an interview to NDTV.
Asked which citizens’ rights does he worry about or are under threat, he said, “The Constitution is under threat. With the massive electoral victory in UP, a priest has been installed as the chief minister at the insistence of the Prime Minister... is a signal and if you cannot see then either you are the spokespersons of political parties or you must have your head or eyes examined.”

He is a career politician, already an elected member of Lok Sabha (M.P. in the Lower House of Parliament). He also has a bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Math. His being a bachelor (single) and wearing a saffron-colored shirt in the style of a sadhu seems to speak more as living frugally and serving his voters dedicatedly. He already has declared that he will keep caste and religion out of politics (e.g. in the sense of UCC probably, i.e. one law for everyone, irrespective of race, religion, caste and gender) and provide an honest and effective Govt.

true, but remember that the BJP did not project him as CM during the assembly elections nor did he contest an assembly seat. People of UP may not have voted for BJP if it would have projected Adityanath as CM.Seva Lamberdar wrote:He is a career politician, already an elected member of Lok Sabha (M.P. in the Lower House of Parliament).

Hari Shankar Tiwari, formerly the top mafia don of Uttar Pradesh, had two PhD degrees.
