Day after he alleged threats, Ramachandra Guha says Modi set to become India’s third most successful PM

Narendra Modi is all set to become the third “most successful” Prime Minister of India after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, celebrated historian Ramachandra Guha has said, asserting that the 66-year-old leader’s “charisma” and “appeal” transcend the boundaries of caste and language....

His comments came a day after the historian alleged that he was getting threats because of his criticism for Modi and the BJP.

It looks like you are left all alone in the cold by your friends. Moreover, it probably was not BJP after Guha, but someone else. Guha had been criticizing BJP and Modi for a long time but he did not get threats before, so why now? It seems someone else, not satisfied with Guha's criticism of BJP and Modi in the past.

Many people/ids sending identical mails warning me to "get ready to be punishment (sic) by Divine Mahakal" for being critical of the BJP.

Guha presumably did not wish to end up like Kalburgi, and hence the U-turn.

In a shocking incident, M. M. Kalburgi (77) — veteran Kannada writer and former Vice-Chancellor of Kannada University, Hampi — who was known for his strong stand against superstitious practices and right-wing groups, was shot dead by two unidentified persons at his house in Kalyan Nagar here at 8.40 a.m. on Sunday.

According to his family members, Prof. Kalburgi was speaking on his cellphone when someone knocked on the door of his house. When he opened the door, Prof. Kalburgi was shot at from a point-blank range on his forehead. The bullet pierced through his head.

His daughter, Roopadarshi, said that after hearing the gunshots, they rushed to the verandah and saw Prof. Kalburgi lying on the ground. He was first rushed to a private hospital and from there to the District Civil Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Along with Ms. Roopadarshi, Prof. Kalburgi’s wife, Umadevi, and grandson were in the house when the incident occurred. There was no clue about the assailants as there are no eyewitnesses.

I doubt if Modi or BJP are after you or Guha now for criticizing them when everything seems to be in their favor and they are doing well electorally. They probably would want you guys to make more noise about them so they can show and tell public that they don't mind your criticism.

Guha is pragmatic. So, he is adjusting his position. Rashmun, however, goes by his agenda, whether anyone pays attention or not. When India succeeds, the Rashmuns of the world cry. He should go and see Aurangajeb's legacy in action in Swat valley. He better grow a beard before going there.
