JAIPUR: A day after a tantrik along with several people forcibly entered into an ICU to bring a 22-year-old dead youth back to life with his tricks in Kota, the chief medical and health officer of Kota on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into the case.

The tantrik chanted verses for an hour and scarified a hen with a sword in the presence of medical staff and police, violating hospital protocol.
The incident happened at New Kota Medical College and Hospital. Dr S R Meena, medical superintendent of Kota said, "I have asked the incharge of surgical ICU to prepare a report on the incident that how so many people entered into the ICU."

Meena told TOI that inquiry report will be submitted to the health department while giving a clean chit to the staff.

"I don't think that hospital staff is at fault. What they would have done in a situation when an angry mob threatened to carry out rituals? Any action from the hospital would have resulted in a violent situation which could have harmed others. So, respecting the sentiments of the family was the only option the staff had," said Meena.

The drama lasted for four hours amid the presence of the police who tried to intervene but allowed them to follow the ritual. The most objectionable part of the overall exercise was that some relatives of the tantrik carried sword and reportedly beheaded the hen in the hospital.

"Yes, they chanted verses inside the ICU and carried out some rituals and peacefully vacated the hospital after nothing happened," said Meena, who explained that there are various communities who still get treatment from such tantriks.

The incident happened when a 22-year-old youth belonging to a tribal community died due to heart disease. The family was informed and was asked to do the formalities. However, some family members called a tantrik who claimed to bring the dead youth back to life in some hours.
