MEERUT: At a time when there is uproar over alleged stone-pelter Farooq Dar being tied in front of an Army jeep and paraded in Kashmir, hoardings reading, "'Kashmiriyon Uttar Pradesh chodo, varna...' (Kashmiris, leave UP or else...)" have come up in Meerut and on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in the vicinity of colleges here. The hoardings have been set up by Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena chief Amit Jani in what he called a "protest against the Kashmiris who pelt stones on soldiers of the Indian Army".
Jani claimed to have set up nearly 48 such hoardings in Meerut and on the Delhi-Dehradun highway near colleges where Kashmiri students are enrolled in large numbers. He said that as part of this protest, his organisation's members will ask people of UP to boycott Kashmiris by denying them food, water and rented accommodations...
"Kashmiris study and work here but are still against India. So why support them at all? We will conduct awareness campaigns to tell people in UP to boycott Kashmiris by not giving them milk, water, newspapers, rented accommodations and admissions. In fact, we will also tell people to remove their bank accounts from Jammu Kashmir Bank. If Kashmiris do not leave UP, we will conduct protest march against them starting April 30," said the UPNS chief.

Re: Chaddis warn Kashmiri students to leave Uttar Pradesh or face consequences
In 2012, it was possible for Manu Joseph to have the audacity to write a piece for Open Magazine, titled ‘Sorry, Kashmir is happy’, where he could argue that Kashmiris, despite being a ‘historically wounded people’, were ready and eager to move on and that things were looking much better. He also argued that it was, in fact, the elite, who were fighting to ‘preserve’ the trauma that Kashmiris had suffered. At best, Joseph was either being tone-deaf or at worst he was being cruel. But the fact remains, the situation did not look as bleak.
Narendra Modi recently asked the youth in Kashmir to choose between tourism and terrorism. In 2002, Kashmir had 27,000 tourists. In 2010, over ten lakh visitors came to Kashmir, while 2011and 2012, the numbers stood at 12 and 14 lakh respectively. In 2013, Firstpost. com reported there weren’t enough hotel rooms to accommodate the tourists and the subsequent surge in hotel room and air ticket prices. In 2015, tourist numbers dropped to a little over 9lakh. In 2016, a mere 4.5 lakh.
In 2012, when the legislative council polls were held in Jammu & Kashmir after 32 years, the voter turnout was 90%. In the 2008 assembly elections the turnout was about 60%. In 2014 it was 65%. In the recently conducted by-polls it was a mere 7%. As per a report in a national daily, no votes were cast in one assembly segment and only 3 in another.

More than 95% Kashmiris are muslims. Do you want Kashmir to remain a part of India or not?
