Hindi imposition should absolutely be opposed and replacing english with hindi signs on the highways of TN is a stupid idea. This much said, it is in the interest of Tamils to learn some Hindi since everyone else in India (or at least urban India), from the other south indian states to Kashmir to North-East know hindi (but not always english).

Many students in Tamil Nadu recognize and appreciate the above. See:
