Chamba (H.P.), May 11

Governor Acharya Devvrat today emphasised that citizens should imbibe moral values. He was addressing on the occasion of Anchal Parnam programme under the Ekal Abhiyaan at Chamba.

The programme was organised by the Ekal Gram Sangathan. He said citizens with moral values were essential for nation building. He emphasised the need for giving equal opportunities to women so that their potential could transform society and the nation.

Speaking about the existing agricultural scenario, the Governor said indiscriminate use of fertilisers and chemicals should be discouraged and replaced by natural farming. With the adoption of indigenous cows, seeds and traditional knowledge, farmers could earn more with zero investment.

He said the utilisation of cow dung and urine (gau mutra) was useful for farming and a proven alternative to chemicals and fertilizers. Natural farming was zero budget farming with all inputs and resources available with farmers, he further said.

Shyam Gupt, founder and in-charge of International unit of Ekal Abhiyan, said democracy was successful only when sections of society were made aware of socio-economic issues of the region. He said the wealth of villages should not go to cities and villages be developed as economic centres.

Lok Sabha MP Shanta Kumar, BK Chauhan, Hans Raj and Bikram Jaryal, all MLAs, and Madhvender Singh, Lachhia Ram and Ajay Thakur were present.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Governor visited the famous tourist destination of Khajjiar and directed the officials to develop the nearby areas for tourism activities and strengthen infrastructural facilities for the convenience of tourists.

He said efforts should be made to promote ‘home stay scheme’ in Khajjiar area as a number of tourists visiting this place could avail the benefit of this facility. He also asked officials of the Tourism and Forest departments to improve the basic facilities at this scenic place.

>>> Perhaps the officials and leaders in H.P. should follow the example of C.M. of U.P., Adityanath Yogi, and dedicate first Saturday of each month to clean the streets and public facilities while taking active part.
