Gujarat scribe returns award over increasing incidents of 'atrocities' against dalits

AHMEDABAD: A Rajkot based scribe - Sunil Jadhav on Friday returned a state award he got in protest against Saharanpur incident and over allegedly increasing cases of atrocities on dalit community.
Jadhav, a columnist since 15 years with various local dailies, was conferred with the 'Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Best Journalist Award' in 2011 by then Social Justice and Empowerment Minister of Gujarat- Fakir Waghela during chief ministerial regime of Narendra Modi for his journalistic contribution as a dalit.
Jadhav on Friday returned the award including the citation and prize money of Rs 25,000 to Rajkot collector Vikrant Pandey at district collectorate in Shroff road area in Rajkot city. Jadhav was accompanied by fellow scribes and another dalit writer Amrut Makwana who had also returned his state award to the Gujarat government after July 11 Una flogging incident.
