Comey exonerates Trump – so much for obstruction
President Trump seems to be a compassionate man who cares about people.
James Comey’s public testimony exonerates President Trump of obstruction of justice. To put it simply, “hoping” that something happens is not a crime. The law demands much more than that. Felony obstruction requires that the person seeking to obstruct a law enforcement investigation act “corruptly.” The statute specifically defines what that includes: threats, lies, bribes, destruction of documents, and altering or concealing evidence. None of that is alleged by Comey. Instead, the fired FBI Director recounts how President Trump expressed compassion for the man he dismissed as his National Security Adviser, calling Michael Flynn “a good guy” who “has been through a lot.”

Imagine going into the office of your boss's boss for a meeting with your boss and other people. Your boss's boss is the CEO. At the end of the meeting be asks to soak to you alone and asks your boss to leave.
He starts off saying, many people want your job. I hope you will do X.
You don't walk out of there thinking, he didn't really ask me to do X.
Willing suspension of common sense is what it takes to believe otherwise. If you believe Trump said what Comey says, there is no benign explanation. Stop pretending that there is.

Comey did not exonerate Trump. He accused Trump of firing him because he was investigating his campaign's ties to Russia, and of lying about the reasons for the firing. He established that Trump asked him for a loyalty pledge, asked him to let Flynn go, and asked him to help lift the cloud on him of the Russia investigation. All serious charges.

Republicans are beginning to understand what's what. Soon you will pick up talking points about this.
Karl Rove: ‘Trump lacks the focus or self-discipline to do the basic work required of a president’

there wasnt a smile on a single republican today at the hearing even when jokes were cut. they see the writing on the wall, 36% approval ratings 5 months into a presidency will have consequences. you should bet your last dollar on it.

former apologists are slowly vacating the decks without making too much noise. I bet Orange will have a fit over this lack of loyalty, especially after calling napolitano "a talented legal mind":

The only person who can say this after listening to Comey testimony is either saying while trying to hold his laughter with tongue in cheek OR is a fucking moron.
Pick which one are you.

Forget what the White House thinks of yesterday’s testimony. We spent the day in the Capitol, talking to Republican members of Congress -- the ones that have to vote on President Donald Trump’s agenda -- and they were absolutely shocked at how poorly yesterday went for the president. Publicly they say that the president is a political neophyte who is still learning the presidency. But privately, they said James Comey was extraordinarily convincing and Trump’s team absolutely botched their response. They’re all afraid of more shoes dropping.

Re: Comey exonerates Trump – so much for obstruction
Looking at how Trump behaved in the past, I think he will try all kinds of tricks to get his way. His lawyers are already taking Comey to the court for "leaking". If Comey is smart, he should try and get some money out of this case. If it turns out that Flynn, Sessions and others close to Trump are all involved, politically Trump is heavily damaged and RNC won't risk losing in the congressional elections. So, he will either resign or be impeached. In England, the Brexit' mood is changing. PM May lost some seats in yesterday's election. So, there may also be a change in the minds of voters in bimaru red states in the US. (However, in a CNN townhall, yesterday, 9/9 Ohio voters said that they still support Trump!).Propagandhi711 wrote:former apologists are slowly vacating the decks without making too much noise. On secret recording, House Republican admits Trump’s antics making it hard for her to get reelected

According to Tucson Weekly, which obtained a recording of [Rep.] McSally’s [R-AZ] remarks thanks to a source in the room, the second-term congresswoman “complained that President Donald Trump and his tweets were creating troubling ‘distractions’ and ‘it’s basically being taken out on me. Any Republican member of Congress, you are going down with the ship.’”
