I hope this only represents a small but vocal minority of Trump voters. Are the silent majority of Trump voters afraid of these guys? Is that why they won't speak out against these religious extremists?

Fatwa does not mean death sentence. A fatwa is a religious judgment. For example, "Ahmediyas are not Muslims" can be a fatwa, or "god is punishing X for Y" is a fatwa.
