My head hangs in shame that I belong to country where a rapist's conviction results in an out-roar killing 30 innocents. I'd feel much better had the same up-roar had happened had he been freed.

IMO all Babas are fraudsters unless proven otherwise. Spirituality is a big business in India. A few token social service activities, lots of fund collection, money laundering of ill gotten wealth - this is the usual modus operandi.

This is primarily because a country that lacks critical thinking, scientific temper, quality education (as against degrees earned by rote learning) and is easily swayed by anything fed to them in the name of religion and faith was made to order for Babas and Maas.

I have seen Hindus who are medical doctors and Ph. Ds in fields like Physics, Math and Engineering who blindly follow the religious fraudsters.

Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata party have come under an outspoken attack from one of India’s highest courts after mob violence erupted in the north of the country on Friday, leaving 36 people dead.

Judges at the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Saturday criticised both the Indian prime minister and the chief minister of the state of Haryana for allowing the outbreak of violence among followers of a popular guru who had been convicted of rape.

The court accused the governing BJP of allowing the rioting to occur in order to shore up votes among followers of Ram Rahim Singh, the flamboyant leader of the popular Dera Sacha Sauda sect. Mr Singh was convicted on Friday of raping two of his devotees, and will be sentenced on Monday.

But the court termed the Centre’s response to the violence “only a knee-jerk reaction”.

“Why do you (the Centre) treat the region as colonies?” asked a full bench of acting chief justice SS Saron and justices Surya Kant and Avneesh Jhingan.

“National integrity is above parties. Are we one nation or a party nation?” the court responded after additional solicitor general Satya Pal Jain argued that such violence had happened in states ruled by other parties.
